The New Jersey Hall of Fame - Class of 2010 !

Recently the organizers of the NJ Hall of Fame announced 15 new inductees.
Governor-elect Chris Christie read off the list at the State Museum in Trenton.  The hope is to return to the state  a sense of pride and a state of acccomplishment.

Putting comedians' jokes aside..........New Jersey may be small in size, but it packs a punch (and, no, I am not referring to the Sopranos!).

* NJ, as a state,  has the 2nd highest per capita income in the US.*

* You can thank Atlantic City, NJ, for the street names in the game of monopoly.

* The 1st baseball game was played in the city of Hoboken (birthplace of

Frank Sinatra).

* NJ has the most diners in the world!
* NJ has the most shopping malls in 1 area in the world - with 7 major malls in 25 sq. miles.
* NJ is the world leader in blueberry and cranberry production.
* Cape May holds the distinction of being the oldest seashore resort in the US - and the most  unique!

NJ facts aside............and back to the hall of Fame - This is the hall's third class since its creation by the Legislature in 2005. The 28 previous inductees include some names synonymous with New Jersey such as Jon Bon Jovi, Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen. Others, not as obvious, include Malcolm Forbes and Harriet Tubman.

The inductees wil be honored at a gala on May 2 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
The inductees are as follows:

Count Basie - Musician
Judy Blume - Author
Danny DeVito - Actor
William J. Brennan - Justice
Larry Doby - Athlete
Michael Graves - Architect

Carl Lewis - Athlete
Jack Nicholson - Actor
Alice Paul - Suffragette
Philip Roth - Author
Susan Sarandon - Actress
Wally Schirra - Astronaut
Frankie Valli - Singer/Musician
Woodrow Wilson - President

As you can see - New Jersey  produces a lot.....more than just Thomas Edison's light bulb, and exits off the turnpike !

Oh, by the way - NJ also produced ME!
